As I begin, I’d like to share with you my celebration yesterday of living at Sunrise Ranch for 25 years. As best as I can tell, it was 25 years ago yesterday that I came here, and I had a chance to reach out to some people that I most especially came to be with. Among them was Marsha Bogolin, who is here this morning, and David Barnes and Anne Blaney, and as life would have it, they both spoke today.
It was really good to touch in with all those people and to share an appreciation for the cycle of these 25 years and all the fruitfulness of it. Yes, adventure, challenge, all that, sure. But it is all about the fruitfulness of life. And that’s what we’re talking about today.
I want to apologize in advance that we have a deep study of obviology going on here this morning, a study of the obvious. So why would you study the obvious? It’s because what is obvious is often overlooked. And so, it’s worthwhile to back up and take stock of it, because what is obvious, especially what is spiritually obvious, takes spiritual eyes to see.
We are talking about divine purpose here this morning. What is divine purpose? I suppose you could have all kinds of ideas about it, all kinds of religiosity and philosophy and everything else to explain what divine purpose is. I want to put to you an idea that is very simple. The divine purpose is life—life and life more abundantly, as Jesus said it. Divine purpose is that we should thrive as human beings, that this planet should thrive and flourish. So, divine purpose includes fertility and virility in life experience.
We should thrive biologically. That’s important. But life is more than biological. Life is at all levels of human experience, and of the experience of the world. The power of life is the power of Creation. And so, we are interested in divine purpose, life, and life more abundantly, and we’re interested in the way that happens. How is there an increase of life in the human experience? Seems to me we ought to value that. We ought to value flourishing and thriving ourselves, and value that for other people, in every way. And if that’s not happening, what’s going on? What does it take to really thrive?
The mission of Emissaries of Divine Light is the spiritual regeneration of humanity under the inspiration of the Spirit of God. Regeneration—that relates to life, yes? Life in the human experience and life more abundantly, regenerated. And how is it regenerated? The words of our mission statement speak to it. There’s an inspiration of something that is not visible. There is something that inspires increased life.
There is a formula for increased life, we say. That formula starts with the highest love, the reality of love, which is the power of the universe. If we open to that great power, it moves through the human heart. And the more we open to it, the more it’s present in our lives.
But that power alone doesn’t bring life. Because, to put it bluntly, we could be stupid about how we love and how we let that power come through. We could be stupid, in which case we’re self-sabotaging—very inspired, but self-sabotaging, and not doing the things that let life thrive in our life experience and on the planet.
So, there’s another ingredient here in the formula for bringing an abundance of life. We could call it divine intelligence. What is divine intelligence? We say it’s truth. Not my truth, not your truth, not truth in a book. The truth of the universe, the truth of us, the truth of this planet.
Truth is a pattern. Yes, there’s a power, but there’s a pattern. And the pattern’s important in everything we do. Going about your work every day, you could be very animated about it, very motivated about it, but you need to know the pattern of what you’re about, or it’s not going to be successful. There is a pattern. We say there is design and control.
Design relates to space. If you see the design of something, it’s how it’s laid out in space. We have visual art that celebrates the pattern of things and how they are laid out in space.
And then there is how Creation unfolds over time. You might think of getting IKEA furniture. You get instructions that relate to both the design and also how to build the thing. Step one, you do this. Step two, you do that. How the creation unfolds over time is important. And it’s nice to have the design, the picture of what it looks like when it’s all together, because it’s a lot easier to put it together over time if you know what it is you’re going for.
And so, it is for us to have a vision of who we are as whole human beings, of who we are as the wholeness of humanity. That vision helps us take the steps to get there, so that when we’re not there, we still have that perfect vision that we are moving toward.
Music celebrates how things unfold over time. We have time signatures, beat, and rhythm—they are all about how Creation unfolds over time. And so good music trains us to get into the mode of allowing things to unfold over time in a way that brings life.
We live in a wondrous world in so many ways, and there are so many beautiful things in the world in which we live. Certainly, nature is that way—sometimes terrifying, yes, but absolutely gorgeous in so many respects. And even human culture—even though it can veer off course and be as corrupt as it can be—carries elements of incredible beauty, does it not?
There’s so much that is beautiful in this world. But here’s the problem. It is a mixed bag. And if we’re to experience life and life more abundantly, if we’re to thrive, if we’re to have the right pattern for the little IKEA piece of furniture we’re putting together here, we cannot just be recycling whatever it is we find in the world as it is, trying to pick out the good pieces and pattern our lives after that. Altogether, it’s a dog’s breakfast, honestly.
No, we want to allow the power of love that motivates us to move through a pattern that is perfect. And there are a lot of broken toys in the world in which we live. God bless the broken toys. But we are not here to pattern ourselves after broken toys. We are here to find the true pattern for our lives and for the world in which we live, and tune in to that. We may not always get it precisely right, but if we keep opening up to that beautiful, true pattern, we stand a chance of allowing love to come through and manifest intact, as itself, without being corrupted by human ignorance.
We need a perfect pattern that allows that power of love to come through as itself and bring life—real life, an experience that’s worth the name life. There are both individual and collective dimensions of this. It is a little hard to say which comes first, but certainly we have to own the individual part—the way we, ourselves, tune in to that pattern that brings life, taking absolute responsibility for that.
And still, tuning in even isn’t altogether individual. People help us with that. The prouder ones of us might find it hard to admit that there were people along the way who showed us something by their presence, by their teaching, or perhaps simply by their way of being.
Aren’t you proud that you are the owner of your life? But having acknowledged that and having begun to awaken to the perfect pattern that’s present for us to tune into and found that there are others who are doing the same, what we find is that there is a constellation of awake people. I didn’t say perfect people, but people who are awakening to this reality and who are in the game of opening to it and experiencing it themselves and together. Because while the truth of who we are has an individual dimension, that reality is part of a constellation of Being that has dropped down into human form.
As the song says, love, serve, and remember. Remember from whence we came. Remember the pattern that is the constellation of our togetherness, that is the constellation of our Being. And so, we allow that pattern to tell us who we are. We might think we know who we are, and be proud of our accomplishments, our personality, our education, and our background, whatever it might be. Yes, okay, all that’s present. But there is a reality from whence we came that holds the secret to who we are. That reality tells us who we are if we open to it, listen to it, and take it in. To do that, we have to stop grasping the outer elements of human experience, claiming them as our identity. That’s not who we are. Letting go of all that, we can be told who we are by the reality of Being itself, and embrace it.
Amy is over there just being with that. And if today’s a good day for you to do that, just open to it yourself. Allow Being itself to tell you who you are. Allow the highest love to tell you who you are.
You are not just recycled human culture. Recycled human culture doesn’t bring life. It doesn’t allow human beings to flourish. We need to touch into the perfect, know the perfect, and live from the perfect for that to happen.
That’s how we fulfill divine purpose. Divine purpose is life and life more abundantly. The perfection of truth is what allows love to manifest in human experience and bring life. And if you believe a truth that isn’t letting you live, you can throw out that truth. That ain’t the truth. That is some kind of distorted human belief, some kind of construct of human opinion. The perfection of truth brings life. It’s here to bring life. In that sense, truth isn’t present just for itself. Truth is present to allow love to manifest in human experience perfectly and beautifully according to a pattern that brings life. We’re not here to adulate some truth that we think we know as if it were the end and aim in and of itself. It’s instrumental to something—life.
A mother is beautiful in and of herself, but she also has a purpose, which is to bring life into the world. Truth is like that. It is beautiful in and of itself, but it’s here for a purpose, to give birth to life.
In some way, we are an embodiment of all that. As human beings, we are an instrument, an expression, and an embodiment of the power of love. We are also here to be an embodiment of that perfect pattern of truth. That’s why we have a mind, to tune into that pattern. And then we’re here to bring life into the world, life and life more abundantly to other people. Do you believe you have that ability? To bring the vibe of life that lifts others up, brings health, vitality, happiness, and joy. We’re given that, and we have it to give. And there’s a formula by which it’s activated in and through us.
I invite you to be a part of a field of relationship, a constellation of Beings incarnate in human form who have awakened to these things, who are knowing these things, who are sharing these things, and who are drawing lines of connection and agreement amongst themselves to hold the perfection of the truth of these things together.
As the poet said, the darkness around us is deep. There’s a dog’s breakfast out there that we don’t want to keep recycling. That’s why we, together, tune in to the perfection of Being. And we’re going to support that in one another, remind one another as needed, uplift one another, and then do something that brings life. Is it not brought on earth by us as human beings through the synergy of what we know together, and through the reciprocity of what flows between us?
We have that back and forth between us as human beings on earth to share the vitalizing elements of life. When those currents are given and received by us, it allows for the larger downpour of Spirit into the human experience. What happens between us can loosen the hard pan of the human soul and allow in a downpour of rain. And we need rain. This world needs rain, and we’re here to bring the rain.
So good to share the Attunement that brings the rain, and to let it into the parched human soul. The divine purpose is life. Let it flow in the One Mighty River that we are sharing. Good to share that river with you—to be in the river with you, and share this constellation of Being that we are coming to know as human beings. We have the grace of knowing that one with another.
