Liberate the Field

What we manifest in expression and action often has clear, practical implications. You might need to balance your checkbook, cook breakfast, or do whatever it is. So there are clear implications in terms of the practical world. But something else happens, too, because there is a relationship between what we express and embody in action in our world and the energy field we create.

I am sure you have noticed that creative activities generate an experience inside you as well as outside. If you jog, you might experience a runner’s high. Coffee and conversation with a friend can bring elation. The satisfaction of a victory at work can launch a new cycle of creative initiative.

Almost any activity can build a head of steam. The fire of creativity transforms the substance of our human capacity, just like the fire in a steam engine. The activity could be at any level—physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. Whatever it is, something is different after we finish from when we began. The head of steam follows us, and the next time we return to that activity, we might find that there is knowledge and power there for us that wasn’t there before.

I’ve noticed this phenomenon in this spiritual community. With all the activities we have going on—online events, trainings, services, and much more—we are building a head of steam. It is a field that carries energy and a memory of all the good things that are happening for us. And so, when we convene in person or online or read one of our current publications, we tap into the Field. Immediately we feel the power, wonder, and possibility of what might happen now.

I have been talking about polyphony in the Pulse of Spirit recently, using this word from the musical world to describe the independent yet synchronous expression of creativity among multiple people. Polyphony can seem quite hard to achieve for us as human beings. We are good at being independent, but without synchronizing what we do, it comes out as cacophony and chaos. Sometimes people achieve enough conformity to tame the chaos. But then, Where did the power of individual expression go?

In this community, polyphony is breaking out—strong, independent voices answering each other with passion and power. That has the immediate effect of bringing us the creative gifts that individuals have to bring. It also contributes to the energy field we all have access to.

There is a powerful relationship between the creative expression of an individual or group and the field of energy they create. One feeds the other. Creative expression feeds the energy field. And the energy field feeds the creative expression.

Think of someone playing the violin. The more they play, the more they build their energy field relative to the violin. And it is not just energy. There is memory in the field. The person remembers what it feels like to play. Their fingers remember what to do in ways they couldn’t before they picked up the violin. Practicing and performing feeds the energy field. And the field empowers the practice and performance.

With all the creativity that has been transpiring at our services at Sunrise Ranch—inspired speaking, reading, piano playing, and much more—we are building our energy field. There is a head of steam present that wasn’t there before. The result is that you can sit down in the room and immediately feel that field. It is full of love and pregnant with possibility. You can feel our togetherness in the Field.

It is said like this by Jesus in the gospels:

Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 18:18)

To understand the meaning of Jesus’ words, you have to break the code of the English translation of the Bible, because his words have become ensnared in religious doctrine.

As used here, the word heaven is not some place you go when you die. It is the invisible Field of energy and intelligence related to our life. And the word “earth” is simply the manifest world of form in which we live.

If you are all bound up in the manifest expression of yourself, your energy field will be bound up. Your personal heaven is going to be bound. You will not have a head of steam.

If you liberate your creative expression, your energy field with be set free—loosed. You will walk the earth with the power of that liberated energy.

The quote below is from an early book of Deepak Chopra, Quantum Healing. We used this passage in our Attunement Training recently:

Quantum healing moves away from external, high-technology methods toward the deepest core of the mind-body system. This core is where healing begins. To go there and learn to promote the healing response, you must get past all the grosser levels of the body—cells, tissues, organs, and systems—and arrive at the junction point between mind and matter, the point where consciousness actually starts to have an effect.

The junction point between mind and matter… But where is your mind?

This is from Lynn McTaggart’s epic book, The Field:

Scientist Walter Schempp showed that long- and short-term memory is stored not in our brain but in this “Field” of energy or light that pervades and creates the universe and world we live in.

A number of scientists since him would go on to argue that the brain is simply the retrieval and read-out mechanism of the ultimate storage medium—the Field.

In light of this understanding that the function of mind is in the Field, think of the significance of what Deepak is saying when he discusses the junction point between mind and matter. That junction point is the crossover point where the Field downloads into the substance of our human experience, and the energy and information of our human experience ascends into the Field.

This junction point is a place in consciousness. We know the crossover point when we find that place in consciousness where we tap into the Field and allow what happens in our manifest world to ascend into the Field.

This is the experience of Attunement. An Attunement practitioner finds the junction point and, through their meditations, allows the crossover to occur. It could be for themselves individually. Or it could be for the field they are sharing with another person. Attunement is an act of meditation. The hands are involved, but it is all about what happens in consciousness. And when we say consciousness, we are referring to our mental facility, but we are also including the role of the emotional body. Uranda, the founder of Attunement, famously said you don’t give Attunement with your hands; you give Attunement with your heart.

There is one more layer to this picture of Reality that is essential for this process to work. If the field of energy and intelligence surrounding the human experience had, as its only source, the human experience itself, you would have a closed loop without the possibility of renewal. And we would be left to fish around in the Field for something desirable generated out of past human experience. But while the Field is generated out of activity in the manifest world—the earth—it connects to the ever-emerging source of life. Name that source what you will—the Creator, God, Love, Allah—it is constantly radiating into the Field. So when we connect with the Field, we are accessing something in which the radiation of the source of creativity is available.

The fuller the Field is for us, the more it conducts the creative radiation. The more we liberate our expression of the source of creativity, the more liberated our field is, and the more it is able to receive the radiation of the Creator.

Many years ago a musician-friend invited me to a jazz concert. It was not a band whose music I would have chosen, but his enthusiasm was for the way these people played together, and it became a great experience for me.

This was life in its most co-creative expression! Isn’t this how life works, in any field? If we are willing to free our individual creative spirit, blend with the field, and let the power of liberated energy come forth.

I’m reminded of the movie “The Dead Poet Society”, made in 1989. It concerns a schoolmaster at an elite boys’ boarding school, liberating young minds through poetry. Though the poets may be dead, their inspiration lives on to inspire. The boys engage in a secret society dedicated to freeing themselves of the burden of rigid expectations of their parents and school culture. The rallying cry in the narrative is “carpe diem”, Latin for seize the day!

We need to act. To engage. Liberation does not come through mere hope or intellectualism. There must be activation. Carpe diem surely brings a surge of intention or passion, to run with a torch ablaze, to bring the light with oneself and illuminate the darkness.

Uranda, the founder of Attunement, famously said you don’t give Attunement with your hands; you give Attunement with your heart.

How fortunate that so many come from the heart!!!
