The external events of the war in the Middle East are certainly terrible. At the same time, it is easy to sense that there is something not right on the inside.
How do people come to this juncture except when something is off inside? It is not the focus of this Pulse of Spirit to determine what is happening for the political leaders involved in this current war. But many readers of this weekly blog article are doing something themselves on the inside—something of the heart and of the spirit.
Many of us are active in the Creative Field Project. The work of this project is doing something about what is on the inside of the human experience. Through monthly sessions of spiritually intimate small groups, we are building a field of shared consciousness and energy around the globe. There are external dimensions to these sessions—the use of Zoom, a reading that is mailed, etc. But the real action is a deep-hearted exchange that creates an ever-expanding field of awareness shared by the participants. That kind of field brings profound vibrational support to their lives.
This inner field is the causal factor for human culture and the unfoldment of human destiny. If something happens in this field, it affects everything else. Scientists have, in limited ways, shown how this field affects human experience. Emotional contagion has been scientifically documented. The HeartMath Institute’s studies suggest that emotional states affect both the measurable electromagnetic fields around the body and interpersonal dynamics. But the dimensions of the field are mostly beyond the ability of science to measure, even though it can record some of its effects and the experiences of people who participate in it.
Even the simple act of reading this Pulse of Spirit can be part of building a field of conscious awareness. Building such a field might be looked at as an ambitious undertaking. But actually, it is healing something that broke; it is natural for us as human beings to be together on the inside—to be part of one family, one clan, and one world.
We are made to know oneness starting from the inside and extending out into daily life. It is impossible to do it the other way around. So, understanding there is a field of consciousness and energy that has been shattered on the inside, we are in the process of healing it.
Given the nature of this work, it is a subtle matter. It is God Presence coming to be known in the field of awareness we share with other people, reshaping the field of consciousness, and moving the internal energies that flow between us. Where would you say we are in this process?
In Genesis, the story of Creation describes the waters being gathered together in one place and dry land appearing on the third day. You might think of the dry land as relating to something physical. But if you view the Creation story as a metaphor for our spiritual journey, it could describe our building of the inner field of consciousness and energy. Perhaps the waters gathering together are the waters of our collective heart. As our heart substance comes together—as there is an emotional contagion of an open heart—the interior reality of a body of consciousness and energy appears. That is what actually happens when people’s hearts come together on a creative basis.
This is practical spirituality. It is working from within out, bringing God Presence to our field of shared awareness, and then allowing the field to form and grow as it is conditioned by that Presence. For this to happen, there has to be someone who calls others to the process. There has to be someone who is having that profound experience and is inviting others to have it with them.
I think of two seven-part experiential international seminars that both completed this past week. They were led by Keahi Ewa with assistance from Anne-Lise Bure, Steve Lange, and others. It is the obvious fact that without Keahi inviting others to join her in the seminars, they would not have happened. As she voices the invitation, Join me here, this gives expression to the impulse of Creation, and it is an invitation to know who we are together.
In the old-time movie, Babes in Arms, Mickey Rooney speaks this memorable line: We’ll get the whole gang together and put on a show! There has to be that spirit in the field of consciousness we are building, or nothing happens. This is the energy that moves through a person, convening consciousness.
Biblically, Elijah says it this way:
Come near unto me.
What followed was this:
And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.
—1 Kings 18:30
Reading the text, we get the impression that the altar was a physical thing. But the larger issue was not the condition of a piece of furniture, however sacred. It was the field of consciousness that had broken for the Israelites. Elijah knew that field and the purpose for it. He was in that field. And he was inviting the people to join him there. Come near unto me.
This was far more than a social invitation or an invitation to greater physical proximity. It was an invitation to gather the waters of consciousness together in one place and let an energetic body that carried power take form.
In the days of chivalry in France, a knight who needed aid in battle might cry out, À moi! In English, To me! It was a rallying cry. In the work being undertaken by spiritually conscious people today, that is our cry. À moi! Come near unto me. Join me here. As we accept this invitation and offer it to others, we form this creative field.
For most people, this amounts to nothing. What is real and significant is the outer. And who could deny the practical reality of the outer? The problem is that it is the inner that holds us together as people. And without it, we end up with war in the Middle East and all the other calamities of the world in which we live.
For people who know that this inner dimension of human experience is real, the development of it is primary. There are two crucial qualities for that development.
The first one is contiguity—the state of being contiguous or adjacent. Two nations that share a common border are said to be contiguous. Why is this so important to the building of a creative field? Because individual fields of energy and consciousness that do not touch cannot easily synergize with each other. They are isolated and therefore cannot activate each other or be activated. They cannot nourish each other. So, no matter how virtuous what is transpiring in an individual field might be, there cannot be oneness, and there cannot be the collective power of Creation for that field if it is isolated. Individual fields must be contiguous—they must touch each other—if they are to form one field together.
The second quality is continuity. Continuity in the field creates an uninterrupted flow through the spatial dimensions of the field. There are no isolated places starving for more flow of energy. There are variations in the field, but not vibrational discontinuity.
Continuity also relates to uninterrupted flow over time. The movement of Creation and the powers of Creation are not cut off or left to run dry. There are ebbs and flows and changes to the nature and direction of the creative flow over time. But that is different from a creative current that is choked off or randomly redirected from one moment to the next.
Our creative authority in the field is rooted in the fact that it is a conscious field. The flow of energy in the field is moving through a field that is conscious of itself. So the field and its energy is wired to our consciousness and the quality of our awareness.
The power of Spirit is on the move through consciousness. The power of Creation is on the move because consciousness is connected to the source of power, the God Presence within it all.
The waters are gathering together in one place. The dry land is appearing. Let our waters be gathered together. Let us be open to that experience and learn how to participate in it. May this field be formed by contiguous fields within it, and may the flow of Creation be continuous throughout.
Our Creative Field meetings are so personal and special – thank you.
